My Little Artist...

Although Brody loves to talk and climb, his fine motor skills are not the best (for his age...).  We are trying to work on them.  He is not so interested in coloring (would rather play with or eat the crayons) or in using his utensils to actually eat with (playing with them is so much more fun apparently!).  He will probably still be eating with his hands at age THREE (and only "non-messy" items at that)! And, I don't forsee "artist" as his job title anywhere in the near future (unless it's a "modern" one, then the piece he drew below should get us millions!!!).  =)  BUT, we will continue to work on those skills, and maybe by the time he enters kindergarten he will be able to color and eat like all the other 5-6 year olds. =)

Here is one of our recent "coloring sessions". He actually colored a LOT more this day than he usually does, so I had to show it off! ;-)

These Crayola Beginning TaDoodles crayons are supposed to be "better" and "easier" for toddlers to use.  However, I find the opposite to be true.  The bottoms are weighted so the crayon is always in the "up" position and the tip doesn't break.  Therefore, Brody grabs it by the top, and you get THIS:

...trying to color with the BOTTOM of the crayon.  It's so hard for him to grasp the concept (no pun intended...), so I am thinking the large crayons are in our foreseeable future....

With lots of re-directing and demonstrating on my own paper, he eventually colors with the actual crayon.

He even colors on the floor. =)  The best part of these crayons is they really do wipe right off surfaces like that so I don't mind it one bit! (Except that I'd LOVE for his artwork to actually be on the paper so we can save it and not have to erase it off the floor! LOL!)

Examining the crayons is always part of the "session" as well...

Brody's masterpiece--it'd be worth at LEAST $1 million, right????? 

This and all the other "masterpieces" he draws go straight to a magnet on the fridge and we make a HUGE deal about how awesome he did!  He's always proud of himself, and even claps! =)
